"If we burn our wings
Flying too close to the sun
If the moment of glory
Is over before it's begun
If the dream is won
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price
But we will not count the cost
When the dust has cleared
Victory denied
A summit too lofty
A river a little too wide
If we keep our pride
Though paradise is lost
We will pay the price
But we will not count the cost
And if the music stops
And there's only the sound of the rain
All the hope and glory
All the sacrifice in vain
But if love remains
Though everything is lost
We will pay the price
But we will not count the cost"
~Neil Peart, "Bravado"
This is one of my favorite songs. The deep understanding of love is profound, especially coming from an atheist. The last verse became a bit more real in his life, I suspect, when his wife and child died 10 months apart from each other. Peart is widely regarded as one of the greatest drummers of all-time and is also the lyricist for the band Rush. I have found his lyrics profound and unusally poetic. I pray for him that He will come to know true Love. I am sure that I will include other portions of his lyrics in other posts as part of a series of quotes.

I love rush! My brother Eric got me onto them a number of years ago - they do have some awesome lyrics. And as a drummer I am sure you appreciate the mad drumming skills. He doesn't hold a candle to Carter though!!!!
I am surprised that you like RUSH, my good man. The singing is very hard to get used to, but the musicianship is incredible. They basically created the alternative music scene and are one of the most influential bands ever. I can't believe they are still around. I certainly prefer Carter over all, but Neil's candle can be held pretty close. Neil doesn't improvise at all which I think makes a difference, but it was Neil who got me to want to drum in the first place. I am sure you can appreciate the guitar as well.
What really stuck out to me was the lyrics. I really liked their song "half the world" or something like that off of their album "test for echo." Its so rare to hear such good lyrics by a rock band!
"Half the World" is certainly one of my favorites as well. It is probably the best song off of Test for Echo, if not "Resist".
